SAA Volunteer Creates New Slogan

In recognition of National EMS Week, May 15-21, Southbury Ambulance Association will be placing recruiting signs around the Town of Southbury. SAA’s slogan, “So_thb_ry Amb_lance Association, All that is missing is U” was recently selected by the SAA Executive Board to publicize this year’s recognition week. Alex Cieply, an SAA volunteer, created this slogan.
Alex began volunteering with Southbury Ambulance Association in 2007. Beginning as a Medical Response Technician at the age of fourteen. In 2009, Alex earned his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. Since that time, he has been a vital member of a two person crew and has full responsibility for medical interventions performed during 9-1-1 emergency calls.
Alex has assisted SAA by helping preserve building maintenance and aesthetics, teaching Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts material necessary towards earning their first aid badges and participation in community events. These events include the Southbury Business Association’s Fall Road Race, Community CPR classes, Southbury Celebration and assisting with the SAA sponsored EMT class as part of regular Pomperaug High School curriculum.
Alex is coordinating a mock drunk driving crash that will be viewed by the 1500 students and faculty of PHS the last school day before prom. This event, featuring SAA, Southbury Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance, Southbury Police Department, Hartford Hospital’s Life Star and Carpino Funeral Home will give viewers a greater understanding of poor driving choices. The event, that takes place every four years, is meant to encourage the students to act appropriately during the weekend of prom.
Alex is a senior at Pomperaug High School. He is involved in National Honor Society, is an Eagle Scout and is a member of the school’s wrestling team. In the fall, he will enter the Entry Level Master’s Physician Assistant program at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut.
